Truth be told , I was a bit nervous at first reading the book because I know i made alot of mistakes when you were coming up, thanks for not calling me out! LOL . The spirit of the book or as you would say “the energy”, is written from your… heart. You are calm, non-judgemental but yet your keeping it real. It should cause us to reflect over our lives and see where we need to improve. I especially like the suggestions to seek professional help if necessary, most black folk have a breakdown & don’t even realize it. I like the way you address the issues of the black woman first, we so often bash our men we don’t take a honest look at ourselves. I first felt uncomfortable when I got to the chapter on romantically loving gay men, that is a going to be a hard pill for some to swallow but it had to be said, and I never heard anyone discuss it. Great job! I can’t imagine anyone being upset by this book because it is very apparent that you really care. Keep up the good work. Love ya, mom.

I just wanted to tell you that your book signing was very nice. I am glad that you thought enough to invite me to such a wonderful event, celebrating such an accomplishment.. Again, I am so very proud of you… It was good to see some of our old classmates too… You and Lorigan make such a nice couple. He seems to really be behind all that you do… That is a wonderful thing…I also enjoyed you dissecting the book during the gathering, I can see the compassion that you have for the black community as a whole, I hope that the booking agency that you spoke about was not true by saying that we would buy the book but we would not read it…That would given them all the more reason to say the negative things that they say about “us”. I started reading the book this morning, I read the section ” The Truth About Religion” I must say that I was once one of those people who would beat you down for saying anything contrary to what I “believed in”. Along with being like some of the other people that you described in that chapter… Over the past year or so, I have been exposed to other things and now my perspective has been broadened tremendously. I was able to truly understand the message that you were trying to convey in your book.. I am still learning about my transition concerning ” living in fear” but I am so thankful that I have been enlightened by family and friends that love me and wanted me to live in a sense of freedom.. and not be weighed down by fear.. Thank you so much for writing this book… and I will do what you have challenged all of us to do, and that is to tell my friends and family about it your book.. If we are honest with ourselves, there is at least few topics that we all can relate to and learn about… I know that I have!!

Ms. Vernicia, your book is the bomb thus far. It’s literally addictive. Consider me a new fan of yours. I’m about 1/4 of the way and I agree with most of what I have read. Wow, it feels so personal, honest and real. Most of the issues you address are completly existent and ongoing but ignored and overlooked by most of us, including myself. Okay, let me stop reflecting. I just wanted to thank you once again and I will send more detailed feedback sooner than I had imagined. (It just keeps callin me, just callin me)
)
Thank You
